A92 Ladybank | Trial Layby Closures

Amey is set to introduce a three month trial closure of two laybys on the A92 at Ladybank from Monday 17th August aimed at improving safety for pedestrians and road users.

The laybys, which were formerly used as bus stops, are no longer in use for their original purpose and are frequently used informally for parking, particularly by heavy goods vehicles.

This has led to reduced visibility for those using nearby crossing points, raising safety concerns.

To address this, Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will implement a three-month trial closure starting on Monday 17th August to assess whether removing parking at these locations improves visibility and enhances crossing safety.

If the trial is successful, a permanent closure will be considered, alongside minor upgrades to the crossing facilities in the area to further enhance safety for pedestrians and other users of the trunk road.

A key element of the trial will be gathering feedback on how the changes affect both the local community and drivers who use the route, including whether there are any improvements to safety or any unintended impacts on people who use the road.

To support this, two separate online questionnaires have been developed—one for residents and pedestrians, and another specifically for drivers—inviting targeted feedback from each group.

The responses will help inform any decision on whether the closure should be made permanent and what further improvements may be required.
