A92 Between Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy | Surfacing Improvements
The A92 in Fife is set to benefit from a £1.3 million investment that will deliver improvements to more than three kilometres of the eastbound carriageway between Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking two separate surfacing improvement projects during August and September.
The work will deliver approximately 2.6km of resurfacing on the A92 eastbound between east of Cardenden and Chapel Junction at Kirkcaldy from Thursday 13th August to Saturday 29th August. The project represents an investment of approximately £940,000.
This will be followed by further resurfacing of approximately 470 metres of the eastbound carriageway near Lumphinnans, between Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly, from Wednesday 2nd September to Wednesday 9th September. This scheme represents an investment of approximately £360,000.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the work is scheduled to take place under the following traffic management:
Thursday 13th August to Saturday 29th August: A92 from east of Cardenden to Chapel Junction, Kirkcaldy
Overnight Traffic Management (7.30pm to 6.30am)
- Thursday 13th August: Lane closure.
- Sunday 16th August to Friday 28th August: Overnight convoy.
- Sunday 16th August to Saturday 22nd August: Eastbound off slip closure at A92 Chapel Junction.
Diversion Route: Traffic will be diverted on A92 eastbound carriageway to Redhouse Roundabout, take the 4th exit back onto the A92 and return on the westbound carriageway towards Chapel Junction southbound off slip.
Daytime Traffic Management (6.30am to 7.30pm)
- Monday 17th August to Friday 21st August: Lane closure.
- Monday 24th August to Friday 28th August: Lane closure.
Wednesday 2nd September to Wednesday 9th September: A92 between Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly
- A continuous contraflow system from 7:30pm on Friday 4th September until 6:30am on Tuesday 8th September.
- A92 eastbound on slip closure at Cowdenbeath.
Diversion Route: Traffic can follow the A92 westbound to Crossgates junction where they can turn and return on the A92 eastbound.
- A92 eastbound off slip closure at Lochgelly.
Diversion Route: Traffic can continue on the A92 eastbound to Chapel Junction at Kirkcaldy where they can turn and return on the A92 westbound.
- One night of preparatory works on Wednesday 2nd September (7.30pm to 6.30am) under a lane restriction.
- Overnight lane restrictions will be required on Thursday 3rd September and Tuesday 8th September (between 7.30pm and 6.30am) to set up and stand down the contraflow.
The resurfacing will benefit more than 16,400 vehicles who use this route each day, creating a smoother ride for motorists and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.
