A90 St Madoes And Glendoick | Road Safety Improvements

St Madoes And Glendoick
8th of February 2026, 7:30pm to 22nd of May 2026, 6:30am

Amey is undertaking road safety improvements on approximately 2.5 kilometres of the A90 between St. Madoes and Glendoick from Sunday 8th February to Friday 22nd May.

The £1.8 million project, which Amey is carrying out on behalf of Transport Scotland, will deliver an improvement to vehicle safety barriers on 2.5km kilometres of the A90 centre reserve.

The safety improvements will also include drainage works between St Madoes and Glendoick to reduce flooding on the carriageway, improving resilience of this stretch of the A90 during adverse weather conditions for the benefit of approximately 37,000 motorists who use this route each day.

In an effort to minimise traffic and disruption for residents, businesses and the travelling public, the drainage and safety barrier works are being undertaken concurrently.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the improvements will be carried out under a programme of overnight road closures, contraflow and lane restrictions.

The following traffic management is scheduled to be in place:

Sunday 8th February, Monday 2nd March and Monday 27th April, Tuesday 28th April & Wednesday 29th April: overnight closures of the A90 northbound carriageway between St Madoes and Glencarse Junction from 7.30pm to 6.30am each night.

Diversion route: Traffic can exit the A90 at the St Madoes off slip and continue through Glencarse before rejoining the A90 at the Glencarse junction at Glencarse Hotel.

Tuesday 10th February – Friday 13th March: A contraflow will be in place, with southbound traffic travelling on the northbound carriageway.
The St Madoes southbound off and on slip roads will be closed during this phase of the works.

Diversion route: A90 southbound traffic for St. Madoes can continue on the A90 to the next junction at Kinfauns where they can turn and access the A90 northbound and use the A90 northbound off slip for St Madoes.

Traffic from St. Madoes looking to access the A90 southbound on slip can take St Madoes overpass, continuing through Glencarse before joining the A90 northbound on slip at St Madoes and travelling to Glendoick Interchange, where they can turn and access the A90 southbound.

Friday 13th March – Saturday 11th April: 24/7 lane 2 restriction on both carriageways.

Sunday 11th April – Saturday 2nd May: Overnight lane 2 restrictions on both carriageways between 7.30pm and 6.30am.

Sunday 3rd May – Friday 22nd May: Overnight lane restrictions northbound between 7.30pm and 6.30am.

Temporary 30mph speed limits will be in place during the contraflow and 24/7 lane closures between Tuesday 10th February and Saturday 11th April.

A 24/7 temporary 50mph speed limit will then be in place between Saturday 11th April and Saturday 2nd May.

A temporary 50mph speed limit between 7.30pm and 6.30am each day will be in place between Saturday 2nd May and Friday 22nd May.

The speed limits are required for operative safety and due to temporary vehicle barrier systems being in place.

Pedestrian crossings within the extents will remain open. Any pedestrians wishing to cross will be escorted through the works.

Please note that delays are likely, especially at peak times during contraflow and 24/7 lane restrictions.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
