A90 Southbound At Brechin | Carriageway Maintenance Works
Amey is undertaking essential carriageway maintenance on the A90 southbound at Brechin with the first phase of work to be carried out between Monday 8th June and Friday 14th August.
The essential maintenance, which Amey is undertaking on behalf of Transport Scotland, is being carried out to address surface deterioration on the A90 southbound carriageway.
Remedial work to address surface deterioration will be undertaken on the A90 southbound between 600 metres east of the B966 Keithock junction and one kilometre west of the A935 St. Ann’s Junction.
This will involve the installation of a continuous asphalt surface course to repair multiple degraded areas and restore surface integrity.
The work, which lays the groundwork for a long-term reconstruction in future years, will continue to be monitored for effectiveness and is anticipated to:
• Provide a safer, smoother road surface for the travelling public
• Enhance the longevity of the existing infrastructure
• Reduce emergency interventions, minimising disruption for local road users.
The work will compliment maintenance on the A90 northbound carriageway, alongside upgrades to the drainage systems on the north and southbound carriageways, which were undertaken during late 2025/early 2026.
While this approach is more extensive than previous patching efforts, Transport Scotland and Amey will continue to assess data from earlier investigations to inform future maintenance needs for this stretch of the A90.
Traffic Management
Recent upgrades by Amey to the traffic management crossover points on the A90 at Brechin will help ensure that continuous access to and from Brechin is maintained throughout the project.
The upgraded crossover layout minimises the need for simultaneous closures of both the of A935 St. Ann’s and B966 Keithock junctions during essential maintenance, reducing disruption for road users and the local community.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the work will be delivered under a two phase contraflow system of traffic management, incorporating overnight lane restrictions and a contraflow. Minor preparatory works will also take place from Thursday 4th June to Monday 8th June.
The northbound off and on slips will always remain open through all phases of works. There will be no traffic management between Friday 14th August at 6.30am and Monday 17th August at 7.30pm to account for the Summer’s End Angus music festival in Brechin.
