A90 Brechin | Crossover Upgrades

Brechin
22nd of February 2026, 12:00am to 7th of April 2026, 6:30am

Amey will be carrying out work to install two new crossover locations and upgrade an existing one on the A90 at Brechin between Sunday 22nd February and Tuesday 7th April.

The work, which Amey is undertaking on behalf of Transport Scotland, will take place at strategic locations between the A935 St. Ann’s junction and the B966 Keithock junction.

The trunk road crossovers are designed to allow vehicles to safely cross from one carriageway to another and reduce the need for road/slip closures during traffic management.

These upgrades will help minimise the requirements for simultaneous closure of St. Ann’s and Keithock junctions while any future essential carriageway maintenance on the A90 is carried out, helping to reduce disruption to road users and the local community.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the work will be carried out under a combination of overnight road closures and lane restrictions, as follows.

Sunday 22nd to Tuesday 24th February: 24/7 southbound lane 1 restrictions.

Monday 23rd February to Tuesday 24th February (7.30pm to 6.30am): Northbound lane 1 restrictions.

Sunday 1st March to Wednesday 4th March (7.30pm to 6.30am): Three overnight closures of both carriageways of the A90 at Brechin between the A935 St. Ann’s junction and the B966 Keithock junction.

Wednesday 4th March to Sunday 5th April: 24/7 lane 2 restrictions.

Sunday 5th April to Tuesday 7th April (7.30pm to 6.30am): Three overnight closures of both carriageways of the A90 at Brechin between the A935 St. Ann’s junction and the B966 Keithock junction.

The following diversion routes will be in place during the overnight road closures:

A90 northbound traffic can exit at the A935 St. Ann’s junction where they can follow the A935 through Brechin (becoming Castle Street, St Mary Street, St David Street, Swan Street and Panmure Street). They can then turn left at Brechin Cemetery onto the B996 (Southesk Street) and then take the third exit at the next roundabout onto the B996 (Trinity Road). Traffic can then continue on this route to the B966 Keithock junction where they can rejoin the A90 northbound. A90 southbound traffic can exit at the B966 Keithock junction and follow the above route in reverse through Brechin.

Please be aware that there may be delays of up to one minute 30 seconds to journey times with the lane restrictions in place. In the event of a breakdown the existing lane closure will be utilised to provide a safe working area and allow for recovery without the need for additional traffic management measures.

Work will take place during the day with a 24/7 lane restriction implemented for the duration of the works due to a temporary barrier being in place.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
