A9 Spey River Bridge | Essential Maintenance

Kingussie
15th of September 2025, 8:00am to 29th of December 2025, 5:00am

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out essential bridge maintenance works on the A9, at Spey Bridge near Kingussie from Monday 15 September.

Works will be carried out between 8am and 8pm with some night time working on the southbound lane also planned between 8pm and 5am.

To protect road users and the workforce, this section of carriageway will be reduced to one lane over the bridge. Two-way temporary traffic lights with a 30mph speed restriction will be in place 24 hours a day for the full duration of the works.

Overnight works on the southbound lane will be undertaken using a 10mph convoy system, to enable road users to be safely escorted through the site.

Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the works and the traffic management arrangements proposed.

Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This essential maintenance project on Spey Bridge on the A9 will involve concrete repairs, replacing the bridge deck waterproofing, installation of expansion joints and resurfacing of the road.

“Our teams will carry out these works with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”
