A9 Raigmore Interchange | Resurfacing Works

Raigmore Interchange
18th of July 2026, 7:30pm to 23rd of July 2026, 6:00am

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are continuing improvement works on Raigmore Interchange on the A9 with resurfacing starting on Saturday 18 July.

Works will be carried out overnight, between the hours of 7:30pm and 6am with this phase of works expected to be completed by the morning of Thursday 23 July.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, various types of traffic management are required throughout the resurfacing phase as follows:

Saturday 18 July to Sunday 19 July, 7:30pm to 6am

Lane closures will be in place with convoy operation allowing access through much of the interchange.

A closure of the southbound off-slip from the A9 will be in place from 7:30pm to 10.30pm, with signed diversions via Inshes Junction.

From 10:30pm to 6am, the northbound off-slip from the A9 will be closed, with signed diversions via Longman Roundabout.

Sunday 19 July to Monday 20 July, 7:30pm to 6am

The southbound off-slip will be closed with signed diversions in place using Inshes Junction.

Traffic approaching the interchange from the A9 northbound, and Millburn Road will be escorted through the works area at 10mph by a convoy vehicle. The A96 approach to the interchange will operate as normal.

Monday 20 July to Tuesday 21 July, 7:30pm to 6am

The northbound off-slip from the A9 and the south side of the roundabout will be closed with no access to Inverness via Raigmore Interchange. Signed diversions will be in place directing road users via Longman Roundabout and Inshes Junction.

Road users approaching from the north on the A9 and from the east on the A96 will be able to access Inverness via Millburn Road westbound until 10pm to accommodate local businesses. After 10pm, a signed diversion will be implemented using Longman Roundabout and Inshes Junction. The road will re-open as normal by 6am.

Tuesday 21 July to Wednesday 22 July, 7:30pm to 6am

The northbound off-slip from the A9 and the west side of the roundabout will be closed with no access to Inverness via Raigmore Interchange. Signed diversions will be in place directing road users via Longman Roundabout and Inshes Junction.

Road users approaching from the north and east will be able to access Inverness via Millburn Road westbound until 10pm to accommodate local businesses, thereafter signed diversions via Longman Roundabout and Inshes Junction will be in place. The road will re-open as normal by 6am.

Wednesday 22 July to Thursday 23 July, 7:30pm to 6am

A convoy system will be in operation on the A96 for road users approaching from the east. Milburn Road eastbound will be closed to road users approaching the interchange from Inverness with a signed diversion in place via Inshes Junction.

Diversion routes suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted throughout the resurfacing works and all traffic management restrictions will be removed outwith working hours. Road users are advised to follow diversion signage rather than relying on SatNav systems.

Temporary bus stops will be in use on Millburn Road from Monday 20 July to the morning of Thursday 23 July.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Once these resurfacing works are complete, further overnight lane closures will be necessary to allow set up and configuration of the new traffic signals, with full project completion expected by mid-August.

Gerard Kelly, BEAR Scotland’s Active Travel Manager said: “The resurfacing works mark a significant milestone in the Raigmore Interchange improvement project.

“Some full closures of parts of the interchange are required to complete the works safely. These will be limited to overnight hours to minimise any disruption, however we understand the impact a project of this scale has on road users, businesses and the local community.

“We thank road users for their ongoing patience and understanding while our teams continue works at Raigmore Interchange.”
