A9 Raigmore Interchange | Improvements Near Completion

20th of August 2026, 12:00pm to 24th of August 2026, 10:00am

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is nearing completion of the A9 Raigmore Interchange Active Travel project, with the traffic signals due be in operation from Monday 24 August.

The project will deliver significant improvements for those walking, wheeling and cycling through one of Inverness's busiest transport hubs. A new and upgraded pathway, enhanced crossing facilities and a traffic signal system have been introduced to improve safety and accessibility. The new facilities will also provide better links between key destinations including Raigmore Hospital, Inverness Shopping Park, Inverness Campus and Inverness city centre.

To enable the final stages of the project to be completed while minimising impacts on daytime traffic, a series of evening and overnight lane closures will continue between 7.30pm and 6am until Friday 21 August.

Following discussions with stakeholders and the specialist subcontractor, completion of the final traffic light switch-on has been scheduled for Monday 24 August, after the morning peak traffic.

Gerard Kelly, BEAR Scotland's Active Travel Manager, said: “The Raigmore Interchange project has delivered important improvements that will make it safer and easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle between key destinations across Inverness.

“The upgraded crossings and new traffic light system will enhance safety and accessibility for all users, while the improved active travel links support healthier and more sustainable journeys.

“The final commissioning is programmed for Monday after the busy morning peak, helping to minimise disruption while ensuring the project is completed safely and efficiently. We want to thank road users and the local community for their patience throughout the works.”
