A9 Raigmore Interchange | Improvement works
Following on from investigation works completed in summer, BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to start improvements works on the A9 at Raigmore Interchange, Inverness from January 2026.
The improvement works will see permanent traffic signal control introduced, as well as improvements for vulnerable road users to enhance active travel options within the area.
Preliminary works are scheduled to begin on Wednesday 7 January with more extensive activity due to begin later in January. All works are expected to be completed by Friday 1 May, subject to weather conditions.
To ensure the safety of roadworkers and road users, alterations will be made to the existing lanes on the Raigmore Interchange Roundabout during the works. Single lane closures on the Raigmore Interchange Roundabout and the approaches will be in place at various stages of the project. To minimise delays and disruption for road users, lane closures will be limited to night time off-peak periods between the hours of 7pm and 6am. No restrictions will be in place during the day, but lane widths may be narrower than normal to maximise the available working space.
Footways surrounding Raigmore Interchange are likely to be affected by the works with localised diversions in place at various points during the works to ensure pedestrian safety is maintained throughout.
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These works are part of long-term aspirations to upgrade Raigmore Interchange to permanent signal control and improve active travel links in the area.
“The traffic management is essential to keep roadworkers, drivers, and pedestrians safe during this project as our teams will be working at the roadside, footways, and grass verges, however, we will do all we can to complete the works as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
