A9 at Dunrobin | Overnight Resurfacing Works

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will carry out essential overnight resurfacing improvements on the A9 at Dunrobin Castle from Sunday 2 August 2026.

The £520,000 project, which will see 1.3 kilometres of the A9 resurfaced, will take place between 19:00 and 06:00 across 15 overnight closures, with all resurfacing expected to be completed by 06:00 Friday 21 August, subject to weather conditions.

To protect both roadworkers and road users, the A9 will be closed during the overnight working hours, with timed access amnesties at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am, when vehicles will be safely escorted through the site.  The A9 will be open outside of working hours to minimise disruption.

Daytime temporary traffic lights will also be in operation on 3 August, 6 August and from 10 August to 12 August to allow associated works to be completed safely.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland's North West Planned Maintenance Manager, said: "This resurfacing project on the A9 will address existing defects and significantly improve the surface quality for all road users.

"The overnight closures are essential to ensure the safety of both our workforce and road users, due to the narrow width of the carriageway at this location. We've taken steps to minimise disruption by carrying out the works overnight and providing regular amnesty periods to allow traffic to pass safely through the site.

"Our teams will do everything possible to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can and we thank the local community and road users for their patience while these improvements are carried out. We encourage anyone travelling through the area to plan ahead and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting out."

The works are weather dependent and may be postponed or extended in the event of adverse conditions. Any significant changes to the programme will be communicated.
