A9 Closure of General Wade's Road Between Tay Crossing to Ballinluig | Dualling
Pedestrians, cyclists and others who use the Regional Cycle Route 83 (RCR83) will be affected by upcoming active travel traffic management measures which will be implemented between Guay and Kindallachan from Monday 16 February 2026.
A full closure of a section of the Regional Cycle Route 83 (RCR83) and the General Wade’s Military Road at Kindallachan will be in place from Monday 16 February 2026. The section closure will affect all pedestrian and cycle access between South of Guay Farmhouse and the north end of RCR83 at Kindallachan. A map below shows the exact location of the closure.
During this closure, cyclists will be diverted onto the National Cycle Network Route 77 (NCN77) in advance of this section, with signage advising users from Dunkeld to follow NCN77 and rejoin RCR83 at Logierait. Advance notice signage will be installed at key approach points including Ballinluig, Dunkeld, Guay and Kindallachan advising of the closure ahead.
Pedestrians will continue to have access on the RCR83 up to Guay (northbound) or Kindallachan (southbound), with signage then re-directing them to an alternative pedestrian-only route where an existing footpath alongside the A9 remains available.
Users are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys while these essential works are undertaken. The cyclist diversion via the NCN77 between Dunkeld and Logierait is approximately 9.6 miles, with an estimated journey time of 49 minutes, adding around 3 minutes to typical cycle travel times.
This section of the General Wade’s Military Road at Kindallachan is expected to re-open in Summer 2027 which will tie into the existing side road at Kindallachan and include a realigned Regional Cycle Route 83 and Core path. At this time the RCR83 is expected to be fully re-opened. The widened side road will link the communities of Dowally, Guay and Kindallachan to both sides of the A9 and to the new Guay South overbridge. There will also be a new bus stop for local bus service using the new side road network towards Guay South overbridge with safe turning facilities provided at Dowally for buses.
Users should note that access along the closed section will not be permitted at any time during the works, this is to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
