A9 Brora River Bridge | Repair Works

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to undertake repairs to the iron posts and railings on the A9 Brora River Bridge.

On Thursday 27 August, BEAR Scotland and a specialist subcontractor will remove the damaged iron posts and railings from the area, and install temporary scaffolding where sections of railings have been removed, to provide essential edge protection for pedestrians using the bridge.

To protect both road users and the workforce, a lane closure with temporary traffic lights will be required between 9:30 am and 4pm.

The removed components will be used to create bespoke moulds, enabling replacement posts and railings to be cast and manufactured on a like-for-like basis. These moulds will be retained by BEAR Scotland to support any future repairs and help preserve the bridge's original appearance.

Due to the specialist nature of the replacement components, the manufacturer has advised that production will take several months. During this period, temporary scaffold pole barriers will remain in place for safety.

Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of  the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the visit to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience. A further update on the installation of ironwork will be provided once the replacement components have been manufactured and a programme has been confirmed.

By creating bespoke moulds from the existing ironwork, we can manufacture replacement elements that closely match the original features.

“We appreciate that the temporary scaffold barriers are not ideal from an aesthetic perspective, however they are an important safety measure while the new components are being manufactured. We thank the local community and road users for their ongoing patience and understanding while these works are carried out."
