UPDATE (07/11/2025): Due to delays elsewhere in the works programme, layby improvements on the A9 between Calvine and Drumochter have been reprogrammed. Layby 66 northbound at Drumochter duals has been rescheduled for Tuesday 11 November and Layby 60 northbound near Glen Garry will now start on Thursday 13 November.
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out essential improvements to two laybys on the A9 between Calvine and Drumochter from Tuesday 4 November between the hours of 7pm and 6am.
The A9 layby 60 northbound near Glen Garry will be resurfaced on Tuesday 4 November. To protect the workforce and road users, traffic lights will be in place overnight with vehicles being escorted safely through the site under a 10mph convoy.
Following on, resurfacing works on the A9 layby 66 northbound at Drumochter duals will be carried out on the nights of Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 November. One lane of the dual carriageway will remain open with traffic lights and a 10mph convoy system in place.
Traffic management measures will be removed outwith working hours, however, speed restrictions of 30mph will remain in place during the day as traffic will be running on a temporary surface with no road markings. Dates for road marking reinstatement will be shared once confirmed.
Access through the works sites for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These layby improvements on the A9 will fix existing defects.
“Our teams are committed to executing these works quickly and with safety as our top priority. We extend our gratitude to the local community and road users for their patience.
“To minimise delays, we recommend that motorists plan their journeys in advance by consulting the Traffic Scotland website for real-time travel updates.”
