Updated 10 February 2025: Due to poor weather conditions, lining works on the A9 between Ballinluig and Pitlochry will now begin on Tuesday 11 February.

A series of essential road improvements on the A9 dual carriageway between Ballinluig and Pitlochry are due to get underway from Monday 10 February.

Ballinluig to Pitlochry - Road Markings and Signage

Essential road marking improvements start on Monday 10 February and will be carried out between 7pm and 6am, starting just south of the Ballinluig Junction.

These works involve removing and replacing all of the white lines and studs over a distance of 12km of the A9 dual carriageway between Ballinluig and Pitlochry, starting on the northbound carriageway before moving onto the southbound lanes. There will be no works on Saturday or Sunday nights and this part of the project is expected to be completed by 6am on Saturday 1 March.

A reduced speed limit along with the temporary traffic lights will be setup on the approach to the site and traffic will be guided through the works, at 10mph, by a convoy vehicle. Junctions through the site will either be controlled manually by an operative or by a third traffic light signal to control traffic joining the A9.

Ballinluig to Pitlochry interchanges

The A9 will also benefit from further changes to road markings at the Pitlochry South Interchange and Ballinluig Interchange, as well as additional safety signage. These overnight improvements will be carried out under single lane closure and are expected to be completed by the end of March.

Dalshian Drainage

Daytime drainage improvements between Pitlochry and Ballinluig will then begin on Monday 3 March and are due to be completed by Monday 10 March.

Operatives will be on site Monday to Thursday from 9:30am until 4pm, and Friday between 9:30am and 12 noon. In order to protect the workforce and road users, a single lane closure will be in place.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “Improving road markings, safety signage and drainage between Ballinluig and Pitlochry will help address defects and greatly improve safety and visibility for road users.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project.
