A9 at Allan Water Bridge | Essential Maintenance
6th of November 2026, 7:30pm to 21st of February 2027, 6:30am

Amey is undertaking a £1 million refurbishment of Allan Water Bridge on the A9 near Dunblane in two phases from Friday 6th November 2026 to Sunday 21st February 2027.

The essential maintenance, which Amey is undertaking on behalf of Transport Scotland, will help ensure the continued safety and integrity of the structure through the following refurbishments:

Carriageway and footway resurfacing,
Waterproofing,
Replacement of bridge expansion joints,
Kerb and drainage improvements,
Concrete repairs.

The investment will help maintain the long-term safety and structural integrity of the bridge, benefiting more than 29,400 road users who use the route each day.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a 24-hour contraflow will be in place on the A9 during each phase of works, with traffic operating in a single lane in each direction across Allan Water Bridge.

Traffic Management Phasing

The northbound carriageway will be closed from Monday 9th November 2026 until Monday 14th December 2026, with traffic using the contraflow arrangement.

Traffic management will then be removed over the festive period to minimise disruption.

The contraflow will be reinstated from Friday 8th January 2027, when the southbound carriageway will close to allow refurbishment of the opposite side of the bridge. This phase is scheduled to continue until Thursday 18th February 2027.

There will be overnight lane closures from 7.30pm to 6.30am between Friday 6th and Monday 9th November 2026, Monday 14th and Thursday 17th December 2026, Tuesday 5th and Friday 8th January 2027 and Thursday 18th and Sunday 21st February 2027 to set up and stand down the contraflow.

Due to the nature of the works, there may be periods of increased noise. Amey will programme activities to minimise disturbance as much as possible, with the noisiest operations undertaken during daytime hours.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
