A898 Erskine Bridge Southbound | Essential Resurfacing

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the southbound A898 Erskine Bridge from 8pm on Friday 7th August until 6am on Monday 10th August 2026 under a full weekend closure of the southbound carriageway and northbound Lane 2.

All traffic management will be removed by 6am on Monday 10th August 2026 following completion of works.

Traffic management and diversions are as follows:

Motorway Traffic Diversion:

  • Traffic travelling southbound will be diverted to A82 Great Western Road (eastbound), joining the M8 at Junction 17 (westbound) on-slip from West Graham Street, and continuing on the M8 to Junction 30 where diversion ends.

Non- Motorway Traffic Diversion:

  • Traffic travelling southbound will be diverted via the A82 Great Western Road (eastbound) to Crow Road, through the Clyde Tunnel onto Edminson Drive, Helen St, Paisley Road West (westbound), Glasgow Road, Old Sneddon Street, St James' Street, Greenock Road, and St James' Interchange, following the A726 up to the Interchange under A898 where diversion ends.

Emergency service access has been agreed. To facilitate maintained access; northbound slip road closures at this location will be required throughout the weekend.

M8 Jct 30 WB Off-Slip to M898 Closure

As the M8 Junction 30 westbound off-slip to the M898 will be closed, traffic travelling westbound on the M8 and wishing to access the M898 will be diverted as follows:

  • Continue on the M8 to Junction 31.
  • Use the roundabout at Junction 31 to turn around.
  • Rejoin the M8 via the Junction 31 eastbound  on-slip.
  • Continue to Junction 30 and exit via the eastbound off-slip to the M898.
  • Diversion ends.

A898 NB Off-Slip to A82 EB Closure

As Lane 2 of the northbound carriageway will also be closed, the A898 northbound off-slip to the A82 eastbound will be closed. Traffic wishing to access the A82 eastbound will be diverted as follows:

  • Leave the A898 northbound via the A898 westbound.
  • Proceed to Dunglass Roundabout.
  • Follow the A82 eastbound.
  • Diversion ends.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway in this location.
