A898 Erskine Bridge | Resurfacing Works
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking an essential package of resurfacing works on the A898 and A82 from Thursday 1st October until Tuesday 21st October 2026 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
A898, south of Erskine Bridge northbound: Thursday 1st October – Monday 5th October
Overnight closures of the A898 northbound (Erskine Bridge) will be in operation.
Local traffic will be diverted via the northbound M898, the A726 Southbar Road, Red Smiddy Roundabout, Greenock Road, Inchinnan Road, Glebe Street, Glasgow Road, Renfrew Road, Shieldhall Road, Helen Street, Paisley Road West, Commerce Street, Broomielaw, North Street, the A814 Clydeside Expressway, the A739 Crow Road, the A82 Great Western Road and the northbound A82, where this diversion will end.
HGVs will be diverted via the northbound M898, the A726, the southbound M898, the eastbound M8 Junction 30 on slip, the eastbound M8 Junction 17 off slip and the A82 Great Western Road.
Non-HGV motorway traffic will also be able to exit the M8 at Junction 25 and follow the local diversion route via the Clyde Tunnel.
During this time, an offside lane closure will be in operation on the northbound M898, as well as a 40mph temporary speed restriction.
On Saturday 3rd October and Sunday 4th October, daytime lane closures will be in operation on the northbound A898 between the hours of 6am and 3pm.
A82 Dalnottar Interchange to Dumbarton Road: Friday 9th October – Monday 12th October
Overnight closures of the A82 northbound between the off slip to the A898 and Dumbarton Road, the A898 Erskine Bridge off slip to the northbound A82 and the A814 to the A82 northbound will be in operation.
Vehicles wishing to travel on the northbound A82 between the off slip to the A898 and Dumbarton Road will be directed to take the off slip to Mountblow Interchange and follow Mountblow Road, the A814 Dumbarton Road and Gavinburn Junction to re-join the northbound A82.
Vehicles wishing to travel on the A898 Erskine Bridge off slip to the northbound A82 will be directed to take the off slip to the southbound A82 and follow the above diversion.
Vehicles wishing to travel on the A814 to the A82 northbound will be directed to follow Station Road westbound, the A814 Dumbarton Road and Gavinburn Junction to join the northbound A82.
During this time, an offside lane closure will be in place on the northbound A82.
On Saturday 10th October and Sunday 11th October, daytime lane closures will be in operation on the northbound A82 between the off slip to the A898 and Dumbarton Road between the hours of 6am and 8pm. A temporary speed restriction of 40mph will also be in operation at this time.
A82 southbound on slip at Dalnottar Interchange: Thursday 15th October – Sunday 19th October
Overnight closures of the A898 (Erskine Bridge) southbound and off-slips on approach from A82 will be in operation.
Local traffic will be directed to remain on the northbound A82 and follow Dunglass Roundabout, the southbound A82, Crow Road, Clyde Tunnel, Langlands Road, Shieldhall Road/Edmiston Drive, Helen Street, Paisley Road West, Glasgow Road, Incle Street, Old Sneddon Street, St James’ Street, Caledonia Street, St James Interchange and the A726.
HGVs will be directed to remain on the northbound A82 and follow Dunglass Roundabout, the southbound A82, M8 westbound Junction 17 on slip and the Junction 30 off slip.
Non-HGV traffic wishing to travel on the motorway will be able to join the M8 at Junction 25 after exiting the Clyde Tunnel.
Offside single lane closures on the approach to the slips will also be in operation during this time.
On Saturday 17th October, a daytime closure of the A82 southbound off slip to the A898 Erskine Bridge southbound will be in operation between the hours of 6am and 3pm.
Traffic will be directed to remain on the northbound A82 and follow Dunglass Roundabout to the southbound A82 and exit at the A898 off slip.
On Sunday 18th October, A82 northbound off slip to the A898 Erskine Bridge southbound will be in operation between the hours of 6am and 3pm.
Traffic will be directed to remain on the southbound A82 and follow Mountblow Junction, Mountblow Road and the northbound A82 to exit at the A898 off slip.
A single overnight closure of the A82 southbound off slip to the A898 Erskine Bridge southbound on Monday 20th October will be in operation.
Traffic will be directed to remain on the northbound A82 and follow Dunglass Roundabout to the southbound A82 and exit at the A898 off slip.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway in this location.
