A898 and M898 at Erskine Bridge | Essential Overnight Improvement Works
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential improvement works on the A898 (including slips) and M898 at Erskine Bridge from Monday 26th January until Friday 6th February 2026.
This work will be carried out under overnight closures as follows:
Woodland Management Works
Monday 26th January 8pm to 6am overnight
A full closure of the M8 Jct 30 eastbound offslip to the M898 will be in operation at this time.
- Traffic wishing to join the M898 northbound will continue east on the M8 to leave at Jct 29 offslip to St James Interchange and return on the M8 westbound to leave at Jct 30 westbound offslip onto the M898 northbound.
Tuesday 27th January – Friday 30th January & Monday 2nd February, 8pm-6am each night
Single lane closures will be in operation on the A82 northbound and the A898 Erskine Bridge southbound, as well as overnight total closures of the northbound A82 off slip to the A898 Erskine Bridge and the M898 southbound after the off slip to the A726 Erskine
- Traffic wishing to use the Erskine Bridge southbound from the A82 northbound will continue on the northbound A82 to Dunglass Roundabout to turn and return to use the southbound A82 exit slip to the A898 Erskine Bridge.
- Traffic wishing to use the southbound M898 will follow the southbound off slip to Spectacles Roundabout and follow the A726, Barrholm Roundabout, Centreholm Roundabout, Southholm Roundabout, Southbarr Road, Red Smiddy Roundabout, A8 Greenock Road and the M8 Jct 29A on slip.
Woodland Management Works and Carriageway Resurfacing Works
Monday 2nd February – Friday 6th February, 8pm to 6am each night
A full closure of the A898 Erskine Bridge southbound carriageway and M898 southbound carriageway will be in operation at this time. Signed diversions will be in operation as follows:
- Traffic on the A82 wishing to cross the Erskine Bridge southbound will follow Great Western Road eastbound towards Glasgow to Anniesland Cross turning right onto the A739 Crow Road towards the Clyde tunnel before bearing left to join the A814 eastbound Clydeside Expressway. Motorway traffic can then join the M8 westbound at Jct 19 crossing the Kingston Bridge following the M8 West to Jct 30 onto the M898 nourthbound where the diversion ends.
- Non-motorway traffic will turn right off the A814 onto North St then left onto Broomielaw crossing the river at Glasgow Bridge before turning right onto Nelson St becoming Paisley Road West. Turning right onto Helen St then left onto Shieldhall Road, A8, Renfrew Road, Glasgow Road, Glebe St, Inchinnan Road, Greenock Road to the Red Smiddy Roundabout. Turning right onto the A726 Southbar Road and follow to the A898 slips where the diversion ends.
- Traffic wishing to use the southbound M898 to access the M8 will continue on the A726, Barrholm Roundabout, Centreholm Roundabout, Southholm Roundabout, Southbarr Road, Red Smiddy Roundabout, A8 Greenock Road and the M8 Jct 29A on slip.
Subsequent woodland management work will be required in this area and will be communicated in due course.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
Unfortunately, construction noise will occur during this period; however, the noisier operations have been programmed such as to minimise disturbance. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
