A889 Between Dalwhinnie and Catlodge | Resurfacing
UPDATE (26/10/2026): Due to adverse weather conditions, the programme for the A889 resurfacing works will not go ahead tonight or tomorrow (26 and 27 October). The remaining works north of Crubenmore Junction are now scheduled for Wednesday 28 October, with the planned road closures beginning on Thursday 29 October.
UPDATE (22/10/2026): Due to adverse weather conditions, the programme for the A889 resurfacing works has been revised. Works at Dalwhinnie Junction will now continue tonight, with the remaining works North of Crubenmore Junction scheduled for Sunday 25 October. The planned road closures will now begin on Monday 26 October.
UPDATE (16/10/2026): Due to works at the A889 North of Crubenmore Junction, the remaining resurfacing works have been delayed by one night and are now due for completion on Tuesday 10 November.
UPDATE (13/10/2026): Due to delays affecting ongoing patching works on the A9, the A889 resurfacing works have been delayed by one night and will now begin on Wednesday 14 October.
UPDATE (09/10/2026): Due to ongoing patching works on the A9, the A889 resurfacing works have been delayed by one night and will now begin on Tuesday 13 October and end on Thursday 05 November.
UPDATE (07/10/2026): Due to delays affecting ongoing patching works on the A9, the A889 resurfacing works have been delayed by one night and will now begin on Monday 12 October.
UPDATE (25/09/2026): Due to weather delays affecting ongoing works on the A86, works on the A889 will now begin on Sunday 11 October. There have also been changes to the duration and traffic management arrangements for some phases.
On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out essential road surfacing improvements at four locations on the A889 between Dalwhinnie and Catlodge, from 19:00 on Wednesday 14 October.
The project will be carried out in four phases, with works generally taking place from Monday to Friday nights. Works will also take place on Sunday 18 October and Sunday 25 October. See full programme in the attached image:
Access through the works for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained throughout..
Steve Taylor, BEAR Scotland’s North West Design Manager, said: “This resurfacing project will address defects at four locations to provide safer and smoother journeys for road users.
“Our teams will work overnight to complete these improvements as efficiently as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while the works are carried out.
“We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance and check Traffic Scotland for the latest travel information.”
All works are weather dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are unsuitable.
