BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out surfacing works at various locations on the A87 at Kyle of Lochalsh and across Skye from Monday 20 October.

Works will be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 5am each night and are expected to be completed by the morning of Tuesday 25th November. No works will take place on Saturday and Sunday nights.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and the travelling public, works will be taking place in four locations as follows:

A87 Breakish: From the evening of Monday 20 October to the morning of Thursday 13 November under road closure with amnesties.

A87 Braes Junction: From the evening of Friday 14 November to the morning of Thursday 27 November under road closures with amnesties.

South of Dunvegan Junction: From the evening of Thursday 27 November for one night of surfacing under road closures with amnesties.

A87 Kyle of Lochalsh, South of Skye Bridge: Friday 28 November for one night of surfacing under convoy with traffic light control.

A87 Sluggans: Will be re-programmed in 2026.

Amnesties will be offered at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am to allow waiting vehicles to be escorted safely through the site. Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours, however a reduced speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Access to properties and junctions within the closures will be maintained within the provided amnesty times. Those wishing to exit properties and junctions within the closure will be escorted whenever it is safe to do so. Works will be planned in stages to minimise the impacted areas.

Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing project to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A87 will fix existing defects, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users.

“Our teams will carry out these works quickly, with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”
