A86 Loch Laggan | Resurfacing Works
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out resurfacing works on the A86 at three locations at Loch Laggan from Monday 6 July 2026.
The improvements, which will address defects in the road surface and improve safety for road users, will take place at the following locations:
1. A86 Moy Lodge to Luiblea: Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July between 7am and 7pm
2. A86 Rubna Na Magach: Monday 13 July to Friday 24 July between 7am and 7pm
3. A86 Rubna Na Magach to Moy Lodge: Sunday 26 July to Friday 21 August between 7pm and 6am.
To protect the workforce and road users, at locations 1 and 2, a lane closure with convoy system will be in place on the A86 during working hours.
Due to the narrow carriageway width at location 3 - Rubna Na Magach to Moy Lodge, a full road closure during working hours will be required to protect roadworkers and road users, with hourly amnesties available at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am and 4am. As there is no suitable diversion route for this section of the A86, vehicles will be held at either side of the works area until they can be escorted safely through during the timed amnesty periods, when works are temporarily suspended.
Traffic management will be removed outside of working hours. However, a 30 miles per hour speed restriction and warning signage will remain in place, as traffic will be travelling over a temporary road surface.
Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of all works.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland’s Planned Maintenance Manager, said: “These resurfacing works on the A86 between Rubha Na Magach and Luiblea will address existing defects in the road surface and improve safety for road users.
“Due to the nature of the works and the narrow carriageway width at one of the locations, traffic management is required to keep both road users and our teams safe.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience.”
The works are weather dependent and any significant changes or delays to the programme will be advertised.
