A85 and A828 Between Connel and Oban | Landscaping Works
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is carrying out essential landscaping works on the A85 and A828 between Connel and Oban, to remove potentially hazardous trees affected by ash dieback, a deadly fungal disease.
The works will start on the A828 from Connel Bridge to the junction with the A85 on the evening of Monday 9 November, between 8pm and 1am. Tree removal will then continue along the A85 between Connel and Oban from Tuesday 10 November to Saturday 28 November, from 8pm to 6am between Monday night and Saturday morning each week.
To protect workers and road users, a full overnight road closure will to be in place. Short amnesty periods will be provided hourly at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am and 5am and the road will re-open by 6am. No works are planned for Saturday or Sunday nights.
Drivers wishing to take advantage of an amnesty period are encouraged to arrive in good time and leave extra time for their journey.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland’s North West Planned Maintenance Manager said: “Following an area-wide review of the A85 between Connel and Oban, we are removing any trees that have been identified as a risk to road users.
“It is essential that we put safety measures in place, including closing the road overnight, while we remove these potentially hazardous trees. We have planned the works to take place at night when traffic levels are lower to reduce the impact on road users.
“The nature of the works will result in an increase in noise levels, and we apologise in advance for the inconvenience this may cause. We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
