A83 at Westport | Safety Barrier Replacement Works
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out essential routine safety barrier replacement works on the A83 at Westport, north of Machrihanish, from Monday 22 June.
The works, which will involve replacing the safety barrier and strengthening the embankment next to the A83, will be carried out between 8am and 6pm each weekday for 14 days.
Works are scheduled to be completed by 6pm on Monday 6 July.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, a single lane closure will be in place with a temporary 30mph speed limit and 24-hour two-way temporary traffic lights for the duration of the works. No work will be carried out on either Saturday or Sunday, however traffic management will remain in place.
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions. The programme may also be subject to change depending on the condition of the embankment.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders.
Michael Baxter, BEAR Scotland’s North West Improvements Scheme Manager, said: “These essential works will help ensure the continued safe operation of the A83 by replacing the safety barrier and further strengthening the embankment.
“The traffic management is necessary to protect both our workforce and road users while these works are carried out. The works have been planned to minimise disruption as far as possible, however some delays are expected, particularly during peak periods.
“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding while our teams complete these essential improvements. We also remind those driving to comply with the temporary 30mph speed limit to ensure the safety of all road users.”
