A83 Rest And Be Thankful | Traffic Lights To Be Removed For Summer

BEAR Scotland, working on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to complete the current phase of  essential maintenance works at the A83 Rest and Be Thankful this week.

Works will continue until the evening of Friday 29 May when the traffic lights will be removed for the summer period. BEAR Scotland will continue to regularly monitor the hillside.

Over the summer period, smaller-scale works are planned at three locations along the A83:

Glen Kinglas – works start on Monday 15 June for up to two weeks
Loch Restil – dates will be shared once confirmed
Butter Bridge – dates will be shared once confirmed
 

Maintenance works at the Rest and Be Thankful will recommence from September 2026, focusing on further landslide barrier maintenance, fencing improvements and slope stabilisation.

Michael Baxter, BEAR Scotland’s North West Improvements Scheme Manager, said: “Maintenance works, including the repair of several debris flow fences, at the A83 Rest and Be Thankful have progressed well and we’re pleased to be able to remove the traffic lights for the summer period.

"With higher traffic levels expected over the busy tourist period, removing the traffic lights will help improve journey times on this key route.

“Ongoing hillside monitoring will remain in place to ensure the continued safe operation of the route.”
