A83 North of Furnace | Embankment Repairs

A83 North of Furnace
5th of October 2026, 8:00am to 1st of November 2026, 6:00pm

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out embankment repair works on the A83 north of Furnace from Monday 5 October.

Works will be carried out between the hours of 8am and 6pm and are expected to last for approximately four weeks.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, 24-hour two-way traffic lights will be in operation for the duration of the works, including weekends.

The existing 30mph speed restriction will remain in place throughout the project.

The speed restriction was introduced in early September as a precautionary measure after an area of verge subsidence was identified close to the roadside safety barrier. It has remained in place while engineers carried out detailed assessments and developed a suitable repair solution for the affected verge.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Michael Baxter, BEAR Scotland’s North West Improvements Scheme Manager said: “This embankment repair project is key to ensuring the ongoing safe operation of the A83.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these essential works and would ask them to comply with the temporary speed limit to ensure our workers can go home safely to their families each day.”
