A83 Kennacraig | Resurfacing
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is set to carry out essential resurfacing works on the A83 single carriageway south of the Kennacraig Terminal entrance to Kennacraig Farm from Thursday 16 July.
Works will be carried out between the hours of 7pm and 6am and are expected to be completed by the morning of Monday 27 July, subject to weather conditions. There will be no works on Friday or Saturday nights.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, an overnight road closure will be in place each working night. Amnesties will be provided at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am and 5am to allow waiting vehicles to be escorted safely through the site under a 10mph convoy.
Amnesty periods will be arranged to accommodate ferry users arriving at Kennacraig throughout the evenings and the local bus service.
The road will be open as normal from 6am each day to keep disruption to a minimum, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place as traffic will be running over a temporary road surface with no road markings.
Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Euan Burnett, BEAR Scotland’s North West Planned Maintenance Manager, said: “The intended work will fix defects in the road surface and provide new road markings, greatly improving quality and safety along this section for road users.
“Our teams are committed to delivering these works quickly and with safety as our top priority. We extend our gratitude to the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.
“To minimise delays, we recommend that motorists plan their journeys in advance by consulting the Traffic Scotland website for real-time travel updates.”
