A82 Glenurquhart Road, Inverness | Footway Improvements
BEAR Scotland, working on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out improvement works to the footway along the A82 Glenurquhart Road, between Smith Avenue and Ballifeary Road, Inverness, from Monday 17 November.
These measures seek to improve safety and accessibility for those walking and wheeling in the area, fulfilling the Scottish Government’s aims of making these the most popular choice for everyday journeys.
Works will be carried out between 8am and 6pm each working day, Monday to Friday, with teams also planning to work weekend shifts where possible to complete the works sooner.
These improvements involve widening of the existing footpath in the southbound verge directly east of the A82 trunk road, upgrading dropped crossing points and traffic islands, and installing new road markings. The footpath will also be resurfaced to improve accessibility and comfort for users. Drainage alterations at driveways and gated accesses will also be carried out.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, 24-hour lane closures with temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the work. However, where it is safe to do so, traffic lights will be removed outwith working hours to accommodate local events.
Sections of the east footpath will be closed during the works with alternative safe pedestrian routes and crossing facilities maintained throughout. Residents will also be advised directly of any restrictions to parking or access in advance.
It is anticipated that these works will take up to 12 weeks to complete, with no works over the two-week festive period.
Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.
All works will be completed by Sunday 8 February, subject to weather and any other unforeseen delays. Consultations have been carried out with relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These footway improvement works on the A82 in Inverness are part of an ongoing commitment to improve safety, quality, and comfort for vulnerable road users.
“The traffic management is essential to keep roadworkers and road users safe during this project, however our teams will carry out these works quickly, with safety as our top priority.
“We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”
