A82 Fort William | Underground Radar Survey
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out two nights of underground radar surveys at two locations on the A82 in Fort William, Belford Road and Nevis Roundabout, from Tuesday 29 September for two nights.
The surveys are non-intrusive and will involve using specialist equipment to scan beneath the road surface, helping to identify the location and depth of existing underground utilities and services. The information gathered will help inform plans to upgrade local crossing facilities and determine whether any amendments are required as the design progresses.
Works will be carried out between the hours of 8pm and 6am and are expected to be completed by Thursday 1 October.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed restriction will be in place. Access for emergency services and schedules bus services will be maintained throughout the project.
Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Michael Baxter, BEAR Scotland’s North West Improvements Scheme Manager said: “These surveys are an important step in developing plans to upgrade local crossing facilities in Fort William.
"The work will allow us to accurately identify the location and depth of underground utilities, helping us to assess any constraints and inform future design work.
“The works have been programmed overnight to minimise disruption to road users and the local community.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these essential investigation works and would ask them to fully comply with temporary speed limits to ensure our workers can go home safely to their families each day.”
