A8 Westbound Between Eurocentral Junction and Shawhead Junction | Bridge Concrete Repair Works
Road users are advised that the A8 westbound carriageway between Eurocentral Junction and Shawhead Junction (A725) will be closed overnight for ten nights, (excluding Saturday & Sunday nights), commencing Monday 27 July 2026, for bridge concrete repair works. The closures have been scheduled overnight, on weekdays, to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.
The works will be undertaken as follows:
The A8 westbound carriageway between Eurocentral Junction and Shawhead Junction off slip road, will be closed for ten nights (excluding Saturday & Sunday nights), from 8pm each night until 6am the following day, on the following dates:
• Monday 27 July to Friday 31 July (5 nights)
• Monday 03 August to Friday 07 August (5 nights)
As a result, the following slip road will also be closed:
• A8 westbound Shawhead Junction off slip road to A725
A signed diversion route will be in place via Townhead Avenue Eurocentral, McNeil Drive, B799 Bo’Ness Road (South), A775 Main Street Holytown, A775 Main Street Mossend, A775 Campbell Street Bellshill, A721 Gartcosh Walk, take 4th exit on Bellziehill roundabout for A725 northbound on slip road, continue A725 northbound and follow permanent signage for Coatbridge or return to A8 westbound at Shawhead Junction on slip road for A8 Bargeddie & Glasgow.
These closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential bridge maintenance works are undertaken. Works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to road users. The road will reopen at 6am each morning.
The diversion route will add an estimated 5.0 miles and 10 minutes to affected journeys via the A775 Holytown & A721 Bellshill, A725 northbound to Shawhead and return to A8 westbound.
Access for emergency services vehicles will be maintained.
Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland’s website prior to travelling to check their route.
The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council and the emergency services.
Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
