As part of a commitment to providing a safe and reliable railway, engineers will be conducting a structural survey of the railway bridge (named A8, Greenock Road). The Eastbound Carriageway will be closed from 22:00hrs on Saturday 2nd May until 06:00hrs on Sunday 3rd May and the Westbound Carriageway will be closed from 22:00hrs on Sunday 3rd May until 06:00hrs on Monday 4th May.

Signage will be in place ahead of the road closure with a diversion route in place via the A761 Clune Brae towards Johnstone, onto A737 W/Bound towards M8 JCN 29 St James Interchange and Westbound via M8 towards M8 JCN 29 St James Interchange, onto A737 E/Bound towards Johnstone, onto A761 to Port Glasgow.

Coneworx on behalf of Network Rail will manage the closed section of road and will put out warning signs in advance of the closure and diversion signs out during it.

Darren Dickson, Project Manager for Network Rail, said: “The work we’re undertaking will provide vital information on the condition of this railway bridge is crucial for the long-term future reliability of the line.

Working on the railway at night offers the safest environment for our teams and causes the least disruption to our passengers and freight trains. However, we understand the inconvenience this work will cause some people.

“We would like to thank those affected for their patience and understanding and offer assurances that every effort has been made to reduce the impact of our activities as much as possible.”
