A78 Irvine | Resurfacing

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the northbound A78 in Irvine between Meadowhead Roundabout and Newhouse Interchange Roundabout from Tuesday 19th May until Monday 25th May 2026.

• This work will take place under overnight closures between the hours of 8pm and 6am from Tuesday 19th May until Friday 22nd May. During this time, the northbound A78 carriageway will be closed between Meadowhead Roundabout and Newhouse Interchange Roundabout and a signed diversion will be in operation.
• Northbound A78 traffic will be diverted at Meadowhead Roundabout towards Three Stanes Roundabout and follow the A737 and Newhouse Interchange to take the first exit and re-join the northbound A78.
  Single lane closures will be in operation on the southbound unclassified road junction with Meadowhead Roundabout to facilitate these works.

This work will be followed by a full weekend closure of Meadowhead Roundabout, including the north and southbound approaches, from 8pm on Friday 22nd May until 6am on Monday 25th May 2026. Signed diversions will be in operation.
 

• Northbound A78 traffic will be directed to exit the A78 at the A759 Barassie slip to take the third exit at the roundabout and join the A759 eastbound. Traffic will then follow the B730, Shewalton Road, Long Drive, Moss Drive/B7080 and Newhouse Interchange to re-join the northbound A78.
• Northbound traffic from Monktonhead Roundabout will be diverted on to the eastbound A78 towards Dutchhouse Roundabout to join the northbound A77. At Bellfield Interchange, traffic will then join the westbound A71 Hurlford Road to follow Moorfield Roundabout, Corsehill Mount Roundabout and Warrix Interchange to re-join the northbound A78.
• Southbound A78 will be directed to exit the A78 at Newhouse Interchange and follow Moss Drive, Oldhall Roundabout, Lond Drive, the eastbound A71, Corsehill Mount Roundabout, Moorfield Roundabout, Bellfield Interchange, the southbound A77 and Dutchhouse Roundabout to re-join the southbound A78.
• Traffic intending to use the southbound A78 on slip from Newhouse Interchange will be directed to follow the above diversion.
• Traffic wishing to use the unclassified road between Meadowhead Roundabout and the A759 roundabout will be directed to continue on the eastbound A759 and follow the B730, Shewalton Road, Long Drive, Moss Drive/B7080 and at Newhouse Interchange, can either join the A737 or the northbound A78.
• Traffic wishing to use the unclassified road between Meadowhead Roundabout and Three Stanes Roundabout will be directed to continue on the A737 through Newhouse Interchange and follow Moss Drive, Oldhall Roundabout, Long Drive, Shewalton Road, the B730 and the A759 to follow permanent signage.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway in this location.
