A78 Greenock | Resurfacing
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A78 between Neil Street and Cumberland Road in Greenock, from Friday 14th November until Wednesday 26th November 2025 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
This work will be carried out under overnight convoy and junction closures in five phases as follows:
Phase 1: From Friday 14th November until Sunday 16th November, an overnight convoy between Pennyfern Road and Neil Street will be in place, as well as the closure of Pennyfern Road and Neil Street.
Traffic wishing to use Pennyfern Road will be diverted via Pennyfern Road, Maple Road, Woodstock Road, Hole Farm Road, Peat Road and Dunlop Street to re-join the A78.
Traffic wishing to use Neil Street will be diverted via Neil Street, Munro Street, Curlew Crescent and Grieve Road to re-join the A78
Phase 2: From Sunday 16th November until Wednesday 19th November, an overnight convoy between Branchton Road and Cumberland Road will be in place, as well as the closure of Gleninver Road and Cumbernauld Road.
Traffic wishing to use Gleninver Road will be diverted via Gleninver Road, Larkfield Road, Hilltop Road, Larkfield Road, Cumberland Road and Auchmead Road to re-join the A78
Traffic wishing to use Cumbernauld Road will be diverted via Cumberland Road and Auchmead Road.
Traffic wishing to turn right from Branchton Road to the A78 northbound will be diverted via the A78 southbound to Bankfoot Roundabout to join the A78 northbound.
Phase 3: From Wednesday 19th November until Sunday 23rd November, an overnight convoy between Neil Street and Branchton Road will be in place, as well as the closure of Gleninver Road and Neil Street. Traffic will use the above noted diversions.
Phase 4: From 8pm on Sunday 23rd November until 6am on Monday 24th November, an overnight convoy between Pennyfern Road and Neil Street will be in place.
Phase 5: From Monday 24th November until Wednesday 26th November, an overnight convoy between Neil Street and Branchton Road will be in place, as well as the closure of Gleninver Road. Traffic wishing to use Gleninver Road will follow the above noted diversion.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway in this location.
