A77 Ballantrae | Essential Bridge Refurbishment Works

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential bridge refurbishments on the A77 in Ballantrae from Monday 1st June until Friday 18th December 2026 under continuous 24-hour temporary traffic lights. This is the second phase of the refurbishment works following the Phase 1 works carried out between September 2024 – March 2025.

There will also be a weight restriction imposed on the structure of up to 80 tonnes between 10th June – 17th August.

To facilitate jacking of the bridge, temporary overnight restrictions will be required on Ballantrae bridge on the following dates:

• Monday 17th August 2026;
• Tuesday 1st September 2026;
• Thursday 10th September 2026;
• Friday 16th October 2026;
• Tuesday 3rd November 2026;
• Wednesday 18th November 2026
   

These restrictions will be managed using the existing temporary traffic lights. During the jacking operation, the traffic signals will remain on red for a period of up to 15 minutes, with traffic held, to allow the works to be carried out safely. Once the operation is complete, the signals will return to normal operation and traffic will continue through the site as usual.

Traffic will not be required to follow a signed diversion under these revised traffic management arrangements.

A total road closure at this location is not anticipated and would only be considered in exceptional circumstances. If required, traffic would be diverted as follows:

• Southbound traffic will be diverted via the A714, Wigtown Road Junction, the A75 westbound and the A751 northbound, where they will be able to re-join the A77 southbound.
• Northbound traffic will take the above diversion route in reverse.
  Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway structure in this location.
