A75 West of Kirkcowan | Essential Road Resurfacing

A75 West of Kirkcowan
24th of February 0026, 7:00pm to 24th of November 2026, 7:00pm

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will undertake essential full-depth road reconstruction works on the A75 west of Kirkcowan from Saturday 24 October until Tuesday 24 November 2026.

To allow these works to be carried out safely and efficiently, the A75 between Glenluce and Newton Stewart (both directions) will be subject to overnight road closures between 7.00pm and 6.00am each night as follows:

Saturday 24 October
Monday 26 to Friday 30 October
Sunday 1 to Friday 6 November
Sunday 8 to Friday 13 November
Sunday 15 to Friday 20 November
Sunday 22 to Friday 24 November

During the works, signed diversions will be in operation as follows:
Westbound traffic will be directed to exit the A75 at Wigtown Roundabout and follow the A714 Wigtown Road, the B7005, the A714, the B7085 to Port William and the A747.

Eastbound traffic will follow the above diversion route in reverse.

Temporary traffic lights will also be in place as follows:

6am Sunday 25 to 7pm Monday 26 October
Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 October, 6am to 7pm, each day
6am Saturday 31 October to Sunday 1 November 7pm
Monday 2 to Friday 6 November, 6am to 7pm, each day
6am Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 November 7pm
Monday 9 to Friday 13 November, 6am to 7pm, each day
6am Saturday 14 to Sunday 15 November 7pm
Monday 16 to Friday 20 November, 6am to 7pm, each day
6am Saturday 21 to Sunday 22 November 7pm
Monday 23 to Friday 24 November, 6am to 7pm, each day

A full road closure is required to safely undertake these works due to the nature of the construction activities and the time needed for materials to cure. The scheme involves a full-depth reconstruction of the carriageway, which cannot be delivered safely or effectively under traffic management. Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Once complete, the works will improve the condition and resilience of the road, providing a smoother and more reliable route for the vehicles that use it every day.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
