A737 St James Viaduct To The M8 Junction 28A | Maintenance Works
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, continues to undertake essential maintenance on the A737 St James’ Viaduct link to M8 Junction 28A following the successful installation of the new expansion joint on the eastbound carriageway in Summer 2026. Work to replace the expansion joint on the east abutment will take place throughout October 2026 with various traffic management arrangements.
Overnight Closures:
These works will require a series of total overnight closures at this location between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night from Tuesday 6th October until Friday 9th October 2026, as well as between Monday 12th October and Thursday 22nd October 2026.
Update: Due to predicted bad weather Thursday 8th and Friday 9th of October night shifts have been postponed to Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th.
During this time, traffic will be diverted onto the A737 off slip to St James' Interchange to join the M8 via the Junction 29 eastbound on slip, where this diversion will end.
Please be advised that bridge plates will be installed on Sunday 11th October 2026, and a temporary speed restriction of 30mph will be in place until Monday 2nd November 2026. This temporary speed restriction will be enforced by average speed cameras on the eastbound carriageway.
An overnight closure of the A737 from Linwood will also be required on Sunday 1st November 2026 to facilitate the removal of the average speed cameras.
On Sunday 1st November 2026, traffic will be diverted via Linwood Roundabout, Linwood Road, Barskiven Road, Ferguslie Park Avenue, Greenhill Road, the A726, St James’ Interchange, and the M8 Junction 29 eastbound on-slip.
Extended Full Weekend Closures:
Two consecutive full extended weekend closures at this location will be required on the following dates:
8pm on Friday 23rd October until 6am on Tuesday 27th October 2026
8pm on Friday 30th October until 6am on Tuesday 3rd November 2026
Traffic will be diverted onto the A737 off slip to St James' Interchange to join the M8 via the Junction 29 eastbound on-slip, where this diversion will end.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety of the carriageway in this location.
Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
