A737 Between St James Roundabout and Dalgarven | Essential Woodland Management
UPDATE (28/11/2025): Please be advised that due to operational delays, woodland management works on the A737 between St James’ Roundabout and Dalgarven will require one additional night of works from 8pm on Thursday 11th December until 6am on Friday 12th December 2025.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential woodland management works on the A737 between St James’ Roundabout and Dalgarven from Monday 29th September until Tuesday 11th November 2025 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. This work will require overnight lane and slip road closures as follows:
8pm on Monday 29th September 2025 until 6am on Tuesday 30th September:
A single lane closure will be required at Linwood Interchange as well as the closure of the westbound on and off-slip roads at this location.
Traffic wishing to use the A737 westbound off-slip at Linwood Interchange will be diverted via the A737 to Johnstone to turn and follow the A737 back to Linwood to exit at the eastbound off-slip.
Traffic wishing to use the A737 westbound on-slip at Linwood Interchange will be diverted via the eastbound A737 to St James’ Roundabout to turn and follow the A737 westbound to exit at the westbound off-slip.
Tuesday 30th September until Thursday 2nd October:
From 8pm on Tuesday 30th September until 6am on Wednesday 1st October, a single lane closure will be required on both the on and off-slip roads on Johnstone Interchange as well as a closure of the westbound off-slip to Johnstone.
Traffic wishing to use the A737 westbound off-slip road to Johnstone will be directed to continue westbound on the A737 and exit at the Kilbarchan off-slip to return to the A737 at the eastbound on-slip and return eastbound on the A737 to exit at the eastbound Johnstone off-slip.
From 8pm on Wednesday 1st October until 6am on Thursday 2nd October, the single lane closure above will be extended on the westbound carriageway to Kilbarchan, as well as a closure of the westbound on-slip at Johnstone and a closure of the westbound off-slip at Kilbarchan.
Traffic wishing to use the Johnstone on-slip will be directed to join the eastbound carriageway, exit at Linwood to join the westbound A737 carriageway.
Traffic wishing to use the Kilbarchan off-slip will be directed to continue on the A737 westbound to Howwood and follow the B787, Main Street, Beith Road, Cochranmill Road and Kilbarchan Road, where this diversion will end.
Thursday 2nd October until Tuesday 7th October (excluding Saturday and Sunday):
There will be a closure of the eastbound A737 on-slip at Kilbarchan and the eastbound off-slip to Johnstone. Please note that no works will take place on Saturday 4th October or Sunday 5th October.
Traffic wishing to use the Kilbarchan eastbound on-slip will be directed to travel on the B787 to Kilbarchan Road and follow Graham Street, High Street and Barrochan Road to join the eastbound A737 at Johnstone.
Traffic wishing to use the Johnstone off-slip will be directed to continue east on the A373 to Linwood to re-join the A737 and travel westbound to the Johnstone off-slip, where this diversion will end.
Wednesday 8th October until Friday 17th October:
Overnight closures of the eastbound A737 carriageway between Johnstone and St James’ Interchange will be in place between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
Traffic will be directed to exit the eastbound carriageway at the Barrochan Road off-slip and follow Barrochan Road, Bridge of Weir Road and the A761 to Linclive Interchange.
Alternatively, traffic can exit the A737 eastbound at Linwood Road and follow Ferguslie Road, George Street, Canal Street, Gordon Street, Mill Street, Incle Street, Weir Street, St James Street, Caledonia Street, Greenock Road and St James’ Interchange, where this diversion will end.
During this time, the Johnstone eastbound off-slip, the Linwood off and on-slips and the St James’ Interchange off-slip will also be closed.
Traffic wishing to use the Johnstone off-slip or the Linwood off-slip will be directed to follow the Barrochan Road diversion.
Traffic wishing to use the Linwood on-slip will follow the Linwood Road diversion.
Traffic wishing to use the St James’ Interchange off-slip will be directed to follow the Barrochan Road diversion.
Monday 20th October until Friday 24th October:
Overnight closures of the westbound A737 carriageway between St James’ Interchange and Linwood will be in place between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
Traffic will be directed to take the M8 Junction 29 westbound off-slip and follow Greenock Road, James Street, Niddrie Street, Renfrew Road, Mill Street, Gordon Street, Canal Street, Ferguslie and Linwood Road to Linclive Interchange, where they will be able to continue on the westbound A737 carriageway.
The westbound St James’ Interchange on-slip and the Linwood off-slip will also be closed at this time and traffic will follow the above diversion.
Monday 27th October until Thursday 30th October:
Overnight closures of the eastbound and westbound A737 carriageway between Howwood and Kilbarchan will be in place between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
Eastbound traffic will be directed to follow the B787 Main Street, Beith Road, Cochranemill Road, Kilbarchan Road, Graham Street, MacDowell Street, High Street and Barrochan Interchange to re-join the A737 eastbound.
Westbound traffic will exit the A737 at Kilbarchan and follow Mill Brae, Cochranemill Road, Beith Road, Midton Road and Main Street to re-join the A737.
From 8pm on Friday 31st October until 6am on Saturday 1st November:
A single overnight closure of the northbound and southbound Dalry Road between Hillend Roundabout and Byres Road in Kilwinning will be in place and traffic will be diverted as follows:
Northbound traffic will continue on the A738 Byres Road and follow Townhead, Stevenston Road, Pennyburn Road, Three Towns Bypass, Sharphill Roundabout, B714 Saltcoats/Dalry and Kilwinning Road to re-join the A737.
Southbound traffic will take the above diversion in reverse.
From 8pm on Sunday 2nd November until 6am on Monday 3rd November, and from 8pm on Wednesday 5th November until 6am on Thursday 6th November:
Overnight lane closures on the eastbound A737 carriageway between the Johnstone on-slip and Black Cart Water will be required.
Thursday 6th November until Saturday 8th November:
Overnight closures of the eastbound and westbound A737 carriageway between Clerk’s Bridge roundabout and Roebank Road will be in place between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.
Westbound traffic will be directed to exit the A737 at Linclive Interchange and follow Linwood Road, A761, Longend/Barrhead Road, Hurlet Road, Barrhead Road, B762, Boydston Road, Kennishead Road, Parkhouse Road, Main Street, Lochilbo Road and the B777 to re-join the A737 at Beith.
Eastbound traffic will be driected to follow Wardrop Street, B777, Main Street, Lochilbo Road, A736 Kelburn Street, Main Street, Darnley Road, Parkhouse Road, Nithsdale Road, Kennishead Road, Boydston Road, Barrhead Road, Hurlet Road, Gordon Street, Canal Street, George Street, Ferguslie, Linwood Road, B789, Thornhill, Thornbrae, High Street and Linclive Interchange where this diversion will end.
Monday 10th November until Tuesday 11th November:
Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in operation at Barmill Road in Beith between the hours of 9pm and 4pm each day.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
