A725 Northbound Between Main Street Blantyre And Orbiston Junction Bellshill, Including Raith Underpass | Overnight Closures

The A725 northbound carriageway between Main Street, Blantyre (B7012) Junction on slip road and Orbiston Junction Bellshill (B7070) off slip road, including Raith Underpass northbound, will be closed for five various nights, from 8pm to 6am the following day, on the following dates for essential carriageway resurfacing works:

•    Tuesday 04 August to Friday 07 August (4 nights)
•    Sunday 09 August (1 night)

As a result, the following slip roads will also be closed:

•    A725 northbound on slip road from Main Street Blantyre (B7012)
•    A725 northbound off slip road to Whistleberry Road (A724)
•    A725 northbound on slip road to Whistleberry Road (A724)
•    A725 northbound off slip for M74 (N) & (S)/ Bothwell & Strathclyde Park
•    A725 northbound on slip from Raith roundabout
•    A725 northbound off slip road for Orbiston Junction Bellshill (B7070)

Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows:

Main Diversion Route for Glasgow/Carlisle (M74)/ Coatbridge/Edinburgh (M8) & Strathclyde Country Park via A725 northbound (Main Street Blantyre) off slip road to roundabout, take 3rd exit for B7012 Main Street, Blantyre, continue B7012 High Blantyre Road & A724 Glasgow Road, Hamilton, A724 Burnbank Road, A724 Almada Street, B7071 Bothwell Road. For Glasgow/Carlisle (M74) & access to Strathclyde Country Park, take A7071 Bellshill Road. For A725 Bellshill & Coatbridge take M74 northbound Junction 5 Raith on slip road and continue M74 northbound, following permanent signage for Stirling & The North via M74 link road to M73 northbound at Junction 4 Maryville, M73 northbound Junction 2 Baillieston off slip road to Baillieston roundabout, take 1st exit for A8(M) Glasgow & Edinburgh Road to Swinton roundabout, take 3rd exit for A8 Coatbridge Road (East) to Bargeddie roundabout, take 2nd exit for A8 eastbound towards Coatbridge, A8 eastbound Shawhead Junction off slip for A725 and follow permanent signage for Bellshill & Orbiston area.

For A725 northbound Bellshill & Coatbridge continue B7071 Hamilton Road, Bothwell, continue B7071 to Main Street Uddingston, B7071 Glasgow Road Uddingston, A721 New Edinburgh Road and continue to Bellziehill roundabout to rejoin A725 northbound and follow permanent signage for Coatbridge & Edinburgh (M8).

Non-Motorway Traffic – as signed diversion will be in place as above from Blantyre into Bothwell Road, Hamilton as above. Then take B7071 Hamilton Road, Bothwell, continue B7071 to Main Street Uddingston, B7071 Glasgow Road Uddingston, A721 New Edinburgh Road and continue to Bellziehill roundabout Bellshill to rejoin A725 northbound for Coatbridge/ Edinburgh (M8).

Local diversion routes will be in place.  

Access to Strathclyde Country Park from the M74, A725 southbound and Bothwell/Hamilton from Raith roundabout will be maintained.

The closure is required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential carriageway resurfacing works are undertaken and have been scheduled over five various nights to minimise disruption to traffic as much as possible. The road will reopen at 6am each morning.

The diversion route will add an estimated 9.11 miles and 10 minutes to affected journeys via the M74 & M73 motorways to A8 Baillieston, then A725 Shawhead and back to Bellshill.    
 

Access for emergency services vehicles will be maintained. 
 

Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland’s website prior to travelling to check their route. 
 

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council and the emergency services.

 

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
