A725 East Kilbride | SP Energy Overnight Works

A725 East Kilbride
24th of November 2025, 8:00pm to 19th of December 2025, 6:00am

Engineers from SP Energy Networks are planning to carry out works from the Whirlies roundabout to the junction at High Blantyre in East Kilbride, which will see traffic management in place during the night on the route in November and December.

The improvements are part of SP Energy Networks' mission to enhance network capacity and resilience. Once complete, the upgrades will also ensure a more resilient power supply for both residents and businesses across the local area.

The works will commence on Monday 24th November and are expected to be completed on Friday 19th December.

All works will be undertaken at night, with traffic management in place during the hours of 20:00 – 06:00 each night on the East Kilbride Expressway (A725). Lane closures will be utilised in sections between the Whirlies roundabout to the junction at High Blantyre for the B758. Douglas Street slip road will be shut for one night on 24 November and the other slip road at Hamilton Road will be shut for 6 nights from 25 November to 30 November.

There will also be northbound road closures from the Whirlies roundabout to the A725, nightly, between 1 and 4 December, along with closures Northbound and Southbound from the Whirlies to A725 between the 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th of December.

Craig Morton, Engineering and Deployment Lead, at SP Energy Networks, said: "Upgrading our network along the East Kilbride Expressway is an important step in delivering a reliable, future-ready electricity supply that supports the introduction of more green tech - such as electric car chargers and solar panels in our communities.

“We’re undertaking the work overnight to minimise disruption and would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience as we complete these essential upgrades to provide a more resilient power supply for East Kilbride and the surrounding area.”
