A725 Bellshill Bypass | Essential Barrier Upgrades

Bellshill Bypass
8th of February 2026, 8:00pm to 1st of May 2026, 6:00am

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential central reservation barrier upgrades on the A725 between the Raith Interchange and B7012 (Main Street) junction from Sunday 8th February until Friday 1st May 2026. Upgrades will be undertaken from Sunday through to Friday, 8pm to 6am each day only, for the duration of the works. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

This maintenance will require various traffic management systems to deliver, ensuring the safety of roadworkers, the site, and the public.

The A725 southbound carriageway will be closed overnight between the Raith Interchange and the Main Street on‑slip. The closures will be implemented at 8pm on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights with the road-re-opening at 6am on Wednesday mornings. The programme is as follows:

Sunday 8th February to Wednesday 11th February.
Sunday 1st March to Wednesday 4th March.
Sunday 22nd March to Wednesday 25th March.
Sunday 12th April to Wednesday 15th April.

In addition, there will be an extended closure period from Sunday 26th April until Friday 1st May 2026, where the road will be closed 8pm to 6am, each night that week. Re-opening at 6am on Friday 1st May 2026.

Diversion: Southbound traffic will leave the A725 at Raith Interchange, where they will join Bellshill Bypass, they can then turn left onto Hamilton Rd, becoming B7071 Bothwell Road. Traffic will then be diverted onto Almada Street before turning right onto Burnbank Road becoming High Blantyre Road/Main Street. Traffic can rejoin the A725 at Main Street junction via the southbound on-slip.

From Sunday 8th February until Friday 1st May, there will be nighttime lane restrictions between the Raith Interchange and Main Street slip roads. Again, upgrades will be undertaken from Sunday through to Friday, 8pm to 6am each day only, for the duration of the works. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday nights.

Lane restrictions will be on the northbound carriageway between the dates indicated.
Lane restrictions will be on the southbound carriageway when not under closure.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit over 55,000 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety of the carriageway in this location.

Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
