A720 Westbound Calder Roundabout Slip Roads | Street Lighting Upgrades

A720 Westbound Calder Roundabout Slip Roads
30th of November 2026, 8:00pm to 12th of December 2026, 4:30am

The slip roads from Calder Roundabout on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass to the M8 and A720 westbound will be closed between 20:00 and 04:30 on Monday to Friday nights from 30 November to 4 December, and 7 to 11 December.

This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out street lighting upgrade works at Hermiston Gait Interchange, including the installation of new streetlighting columns and LED lights.

During these closures, a signed diversion route for traffic wishing to join the M8 or A720 westbound from Calder Roundabout will be in place via the A720 eastbound to turn at Dreghorn Junction and return westbound, continuing under Calder Roundabout to Hermiston Gait Interchange, where the M8 can be joined if desired. This diversion will add an estimated 7.2 miles and 9 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the works in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: ““It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close these slip roads while streetlighting upgrade works take place.

“There are alternative routes available nearby and we’ll do this at night to minimise the impact, so we do not expect these works to cause significant disruption.

“Our advice if you need to travel via Calder Roundabout at night during this period is to check whether closures will be in place and allow a few extra minutes for your journey if necessary.

“We’re grateful to road users for their understanding.”
