A720 Edinburgh City Bypass | Resurfacing Works

Lothian Westbound Onslip of the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass
15th of September 2025, 8:30pm to 22nd of September 2025, 6:30am

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out overnight resurfacing works on the Lothian Westbound Onslip of the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass, from 15 September to 22 September.

The works will take place between 8:30pm and 6am each night, excluding Saturday and Sunday nights. During these hours on 15 September the A720 Lothianburn Westbound Onslip will be closed, with the A720 Westbound mainline unaffected. From 16 September, during these hours, the A720 Westbound mainline and A720 Lothianburn Westbound Onslip will be closed.

A signposted diversion will be in place, re-routing traffic via the A702 Biggar Road, B701 Oxgangs/Redford Road, and Dreghorn Link. This diversion will add approximately 5 minutes to journey times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will address and repair defects such as potholes and cracks in the road surface, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway throughout the works, however we’ve scheduled them to be carried out overnight to minimise any disruption.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these upgrades.”

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
