A702 at West Linton | Resurfacing
Works to renew the road surface on the A702 at West Linton are set to take place over six nights from Monday 9 to Friday 13 November, and Monday 16 November.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project.
For the safety of workers and road users, the road will be closed between 19:30 and 06:00 each night during the works, between Melbourne Crossroads at the A721 junction and Bush Loan Road at Easter Howgate.
A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be in place between Melbourne Crossroads and Easter Howgate via the A721, the A701 through Penicuik to Gowkleymoss Roundabout, and Bush Loan Road. This diversion will add an estimated 3.2 miles and 9 minutes to affected journeys.
A local diversion route for West Linton traffic will be accessible via the B7059 Station Road from the A701.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times, while local access will be permitted where it is safe to do so.
Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A702 will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.
“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway while work takes pllace, however we’ve scheduled this during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
