A702 southbound | Safety Barrier Upgrade

Hillend
16th of February 2026, 8:00pm to 7th of March 2026, 6:00am

The southbound carriageway of the A702 will be closed at Hillend between 20:00 and 06:00 on the nights of Monday 16 February to Saturday 7 March, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to carry out improvements to roadside safety barriers.

A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted from Easter Howgate to Hillend Junction, via Bush Loan Road, Gowkley Moss Roundabout, the A701 and the A703 (Seafield Moor Road), adding an estimated 1.9 miles and 4 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These barrier improvements on the A702 at Hillend will improve safety for motorists.

“It is essential that we close the carriageway during these works, however we’ve scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience.”
