A702 Dolphinton And West Linton | Resurfacing And Ironwork Replacement Works
A programme of resurfacing and ironwork replacement is set to take place on the A702 trunk road between Dolphinton and West Linton from 2 February to 27 February.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works, renewing one kilometre of carriageway.
For the safety of road users and the workforce during overnight resurfacing works, the A702 will be closed in both directions between 19:30 and 06:30 on Monday to Friday nights from 2 February to 12 February.
A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted in both directions via the A721, A701 through Penicuik and Gowkleymoss Roundabout, and Bush Loan Road. This diversion will add approximately 9 minutes and 3.2 miles to affected journeys.
Traffic on the A702 will be controlled by temporary traffic lights during the day on 4, 5 and 6 February, to allow adequate time for the resurfaced areas to cool.
Temporary traffic lights will also be in place between 09:30 and 15:30 each weekday from Monday 16 February to Friday 27 February, to allow ironwork replacement works to be carried out safely.
Local access will be maintained at all times.
No works are planned to take place on Saturdays or Sundays.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager said: “These surfacing improvements will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracking. Replacement of ironwork will also help to create safer and smoother journeys for motorists.
“It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway while resurfacing takes place, however we’ll do this during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
