A702 Between Lamington And Coulter | Overnight Resurfacing Works

Overnight resurfacing works on the A702 between Lamington and Coulter will take place on Monday 17 August 2026, for 15 nights.

Transport Scotland's operating company, BEAR Scotland, will carry out the project between 19:30 and 06:30 each night, from Monday 17 August until Friday 4 September.

For the safety of road users, the A702 will be closed during working hours between the northbound A73 Maidencoates Roundabout and the southbound Melbourne Crossroads junction with the A721. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times, while local access will be permitted where it is safe to do so.

A signed diversion route will be in place.

Northbound traffic will be diverted from Maidencoates Roundabout via the A73 to Hyndford Bridge, then along the A70 through Carstairs and Carnwath before joining the A721 and rejoining the A702 at Melbourne Crossroads. Southbound traffic should follow the same diversion in reverse. The diversion will add approximately 11.7 miles and 16 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland's South East Network Manager, said: "Further to works conducted in July, these additional improvements will address defects that remain in the road surface, including potholes and cracks, creating better usability for all.

"It is essential for the safety of all road users that we close the carriageway while these works are carried out. However, we've scheduled the project overnight to minimise disruption as much as possible.

"We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements."

The works are weather dependent and may be postponed or extended in the event of adverse conditions. Any significant changes to the programme will be communicated.
