A702 Between Candymill and Melbourne Crossroads | Resurfacing
Overnight works to renew the road surface on the A702 between Candymill and Melbourne Crossroads are set to begin on Wednesday 29 April and continue until the night of Friday 15 May.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project between 19:30 and 06:30 on weekday nights only. There are no works currently planned for Saturday or Sunday nights, or for the night of Monday 4 May.
For the safety of workers and road users, the A702 will be closed on these nights between the junction with the A72 north of Biggar, and Melbourne Crossroads south of Dolphinton.
A diversion route suitable for trunk road traffic will be signposted via the A72 through Skirling and the A721, adding an estimated 4.1 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.
Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements on the A702 north of Candymill will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracks, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.
“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during these works, however we’ve scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
