A702 Between Biggar and Melbourne Crossroads | Crack Sealing

19th of October 2026, 7:30pm to 21st of October 2026, 6:00am

A programme of overnight works to crack seal the road surface on sections of the A702 between Biggar and Melbourne Crossroads is set to take place on three nights from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 October.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works between 19:30 until 06:00 each night. During these hours, the A702 will be closed between its junctions with the A72 and A721.

A diversion route will be signposted via the A72, Skirling, and the A721. This will add approximately 4.1 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These improvements on the A702 trunk road will address and repair defects in the road surface, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the carriageway during these works, however we’ve scheduled them to be carried out during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”

All work are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
