A701 South of Beattock | Essential Maintenance
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential maintenance, including waterproofing and concrete repairs, on the A701, one mile south of Beattock.
Works are programmed to take place in two phases. The first phase will last from Saturday 24th October until Monday 30th November under continuous 24-hour single-lane closures managed by temporary traffic lights.
In addition, to allow for the installation of temporary safety barriers, total closures of the A701 at this location will be in operation from Sunday 25th October until Monday 26th October and from Monday 30th November until Tuesday 1st December between the hours of 8pm and 6am in both directions between Beattock Interchange and the B7076. This requires a diversion of traffic as follows:
Motorway Traffic
- Southbound traffic will be diverted onto the A74(M) and travel south, leaving the A74(M) at junction 17 Lockerbie. Traffic will then turn left off the motorway slip onto the B7068. Traffic to proceed to the roundabout and take the 3rd exit onto the B7076. traffic will head south on the B7076 and take the B7076 slip onto the A709 where it will head east to the A75 at Dumfries
- Northbound traffic as above in reverse
Non-Motorway Traffic
- Southbound traffic will be diverted northbound on the B7076 to Elvanfoot, then left onto the A702 and continue southbound to Carronbridge. From Carronbridge, traffic will turn left onto the A76 and continue to Dumfries, before joining the A701 and travelling northbound to rejoin the route.
- Northbound is the same in reverse
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety and condition of the carriageway in this location.
Road users are thanked for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.
