UPDATE (30/7/24): Please be advised that due to operational issues, two additional overnight closures will be required on the A701 between the Beattock South Junction and the Beattock West Roundabout to complete resurfacing works. These closures will take place between 8pm and 6am on Friday 2nd August and Monday 5th August, and traffic management will be removed by 6am on Tuesday 6th August 2024. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential overnight resurfacing on the A701 between the Beattock South Junction and the Beattock West Roundabout, from Monday 22nd July until Saturday 3rd August, between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night.

This work will be carried out under overnight closures of the A701 at this location from Monday 22nd July until Monday 29th July, between 8pm and 6am each night. There will then be overnight convoy working between 8pm and 6am each night, as well as slip road and side road closures, between Tuesday 30th July and Friday 2nd August. All traffic management will be removed by 6am on Saturday 3rd August.

During the overnight closures, signed diversions will be in place as follows:

  • Southbound A701 traffic under 14 feet high will be diverted through Beattock.
  • Southbound vehicles taller than 14 feet will follow the A74(M) to Lockerbie, then take the A709 to Dumfries to join the A75, and then the A701 northbound. Northbound traffic will follow this route in reverse.
  • B7076 traffic will be diverted to Johnstonebridge to join the A74(M) at Junction 16, and non-motorway traffic will be diverted to Dumfries where it can join the A701.

During the overnight convoy working, both north and southbound motorway traffic will be diverted to join or leave the A74(M) at Junction 16 (Johnstonebridge). Beattock traffic will be diverted via the A701 and Beattock junction.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
