A7 South of Hawick | Resurfacing Works
UPDATE (28/01/2026): Due to operational issues, one additional overnight closure of the A7 south of Hawick is required, with works now scheduled to continue until the night of Wednesday 4 February.
UPDATE (26/01/2026): As a result of delays due to adverse weather, two additional overnight closures of the A7 south of Hawick are now scheduled for Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 February.
The A7 south of Hawick will be closed for resurfacing between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of Monday 19 to Friday 23 January, Monday 26 to Friday 30 January, and Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 February.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will be managing the works, which will see over 1,000 metres of road surface renewed at Parkdaill, immediately south of Hawick, and a further 774 metres resurfaced at Teindside, seven miles south of Hawick.
During these works, a signed diversion route will be in place between Hawick and Canonbie via the A698, A6088, B6357 and B7201, adding an additional 17 minutes and 8.1 miles to journeys.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “We understand that road closures of this nature can be disruptive and so we’ve planned for these works to take place overnight to reduce their impact.
“We’ll do what we can to ensure we mitigate noise disruption to local residents, including completing the noisiest operations by 11pm each night.
“We thank the local community for their patience while these essential improvements are completed.”
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding.”
